homemade dog treats

We welcomed a 9 week old newfoundland puppy into our home this week. It has been a whirlwind of not sleeping and trying to teach him to use the dog door. In an attempt to make a healthier treat as well as cost efficient, I baked up some yummy dog biscuits for about 3 bucks.

Ingredients:
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup milk
1 cup peanut butter

mix flour and baking powder, set aside, mix milk and peanut butter (I heat the milk first a bit so the peanut butter will mix a bit easier). Mix all ingredients and roll out. Cut out with a cookie cutter and bake for 10 minutes on 350.

I used the peanut butter we already had in the cabinet but I would def. purchase a higher quality next time for the lil ones.

Hillsboro

We recently moved out of Portland to Hillsboro. As we arrived off the freeway we were greeted by signs that say "entering agricultural zone" with a farmer on a tractor. Vast fields full of tilled dirt that is now filled with tulips and peonies. Mostly orchards and vineyards, Hillsboro also has a high amount of migrant farm workers which has gifted this town with culinary marvels from far away lands.

Dogs

When I think of animals I think of the book "the golden compass". If I were to have an animal to extend a part of me it would have been my dog Echo. He's gone now but I have a relationship with dogs I could never have with a person. I'm sure we all have something like that, whether it's a dog, cat or turtle. I had the pleasure of working with Frances, Ezra and Lupita this past winter. Did I mention they are the cutest couple ever? (well they are).
